Cowboys and Cowgirls

Monday morning and I was on my way. I'd stopped by the office briefly, but soon found myself in the middle of the conversation I'd already had 100 times with a taxi driver. Only this time I was not playing. Or maybe I was. But I broke the rules.

At the prompt I informed the driver I worked with software and creation of websites. The response was the usual... "so you know computers!"

"I've heard of them", I said. "They have on/off buttons and stuff. Handy enough, and you can even get them in different colours now."

He went on to tell me how his would suddenly crash at times and the mouse not move. Did I know what was wrong? Take it he hadn't paid attention at all, so I changed the subject and told him that my car was using too much petrol - why would that be? He went silent, so I gave it a shot: "but you're a taxi driver, so you must know cars..."

We didn't speak for the rest of the journey.

On the first leg of the journey from Dublin to Chicago I had great company. A business traveller who'd never crossed the pond before. We got chatting and killed some hours. The next leg of the journey from Chicago to Denver was over before I could think about it, and after "only" 18 hours of travelling I arrived at my hotel. Unfortunately their downtown location turned out to be one big fat lie. I was 5-6 miles away from Denver! Ah well.

After a full day of work today I made my way back to the hotel. I just about had enough energy for a swim and then sat down for dinner. The music got louder, the disco ball started turning. The music was country/western and the people on the dance floor were wearing cowboy hats and boots. They seemed to have fun, and it was a sight for sure. Were the horses tied up outside, I wonder...

I think if you'd been in downtown Denver the entertainment would have been more cosmopolitan. But having lived there for a winter in the '70s, I have to admit that country & western music is pretty big there.

Good work with the cabby!

LOL!!! You must get a cowboy hat and matching boots! Join them on the dance floor and you will fit right in :-) Enjoy!
I am sure they have "parked" their horses outside, tied to the bar in front of the saloon.
Do they slide the drinks down the bar there like in the movies?

@ Brian - I really should get a hat!

@ Roy - That must have been amazing in the winter time - can only imagine the mountains with snow!

@ Yrsa - No sliding drinks, but I will admit I was imagining horses outside the door too :)
