Yesterday I spent 12 hours and 5 minutes travelling from my not-so-downtown hotel in Denver to my very-much-indeed-downtown hotel in Anchorage. The main part of the entertainment throughout the travel was people watching and listening to what you can and cannot do. I want to say I wonder why there are so significant differences between the US and Europe, but then you look at people and it all makes sense.
So let's back-track a bit. I boarded the first flight and found my seat. The window seat was occupied by a very large lady, but I was indifferent. The aisle seat was mine. The came trouble. Another oversized lady was to sit in the middle. Yikes! Part of her body floated into my seat, so I was not just an aisle seat, but actually pushed party into the aisle itself. The middle large lady called for a staff member and demanded a new seat. She said she couldn't have a large lady beside her as she wouldn't fit her seat. First of all, don't ever call me large! Second, if you book one seat, you better fit into it! She was moved.
To make the most of my weekend, I set off on a drive down to Girdwood this morning. I wanted to get the tram to the top of Alyeska, and while it rained a little bit, the weather actually mostly stayed fine. I was able to enjoy a bit of Rudolf for lunch while trying to build up the courage to get on the tram and start the trip down. I managed to spot a group of bears on the way down, but I was busy holding on, so photos weren't even a consideration. I'll remember what it looked like and that's all that matters.
Earlier in the day I spotted a Beluga whale, but other than that it wasn't the best day for seeing animals. Better luck tomorrow, I hope!
The do's and don'ts

Heh, heh! Up in a tram looking down is probably as close as you want to get to bears in Alaska!
It sounds like you're having a good trip.
eh you are better off for not sitting next to her....have fun out there...bears and whales...how cool...
@ Roy - think you're right, especially when not carrying a bear spray!
@ Brian - saw loads of whales today. Pity they are so hard to catch on camera!
